Current Thesis Audit ยท Updated July 9, 2026

The core thesis - unpriced AI leverage hides in power, passives, thermal and measurement assets - keeps being validated: 2026 hyperscaler capex guides to $635-690B, high-voltage transformer lead times run 36-48 months, and high-cap MLCC prices are up 15-35% with 16-24 week lead times. The threat is discovery velocity, not thesis decay: June 9's tape rotated violently into already-found Asia memory and passives (SK hynix +15.9%, Taiyo Yuden +20.0%, Murata +11.3%) and out of crowded US optics (AAOI -15.1%, COHR -12.0%, VIAV -6.7%) after Ciena's beat-and-plunge, confirming that discovered second-derivative names now trade on expectations rather than assets. Residual alpha is concentrating in the unloved negative-YTD operational-data and grid-telemetry cohort (Belden -8.4% YTD, Itron -13.6%, Badger Meter -25.8%, Trimble -32.7%) and in post-derate idiosyncratic stories like Oxford Instruments, down 9.3% today despite 30% Advanced Technologies order growth that already covers FY27 revenue. The active ranking pass cross-checks the original thesis against current market prices, market cap, YTD rerating, AI 2027 compute/security assumptions, hyperscaler capex pressure, power constraints, HBM and advanced-packaging evidence, and physical-AI adoption signals.

Source-backed thesis

The thesis is real, but the alpha depends on discovery timing

The web check supports the demand side: AI is stressing power, cooling, grid, fiber, interconnect, and edge infrastructure. The harder question is whether each company is still under-discovered enough to deserve a high alpha rank.

What changed from obvious AI screens

Power and grid are no longer side issues

AI data centers need not only GPUs, but fast interconnection, backup energy, switchgear, transformers, metering, thermal controls, water handling, and site services.

Latency moves value outward

Inference, robotics, industrial autonomy, inspection, and edge workloads make sensors, network test, embedded components, and localized infrastructure matter more.

Crowding is now a core risk

Some former latent names are already being repriced as AI infrastructure winners, so the screen penalizes high visibility even when strategic relevance is strong.

How to read a connection

Company to theme

What the company owns: transformers, grid telemetry, copper interconnect, HVAC controls, sensors, precision automation, materials, or edge assets.

Company to source

Why the connection exists: macro bottleneck evidence plus company disclosures, investor materials, news, or exclusion notes.

Theme to driver

Why the theme could matter for AI: power access, heat rejection, data movement, site delivery, factory autonomy, or edge inference.

Score to action

Why this is still only a research queue: valuation, liquidity, estimates, customer concentration, and current price action need separate diligence.

Nodes and connections

The map connects companies to AI demand through assets, not hype

The zip does not contain invoice-level supplier edges. This graph therefore shows a defensible relation: AI demand driver to theme cluster to top-ranked public company nodes, with the full source map available below.

Visualizations

The strongest density is not where AI headlines are loudest

The charts separate strategic AI fit from discovery gap, valuation gap, catalyst density, execution quality, and hype penalties.

Theme density and average alpha

Power/grid and sensors have the most nodes, while smaller clusters can still score well when discovery and valuation gaps are high.

Discovery gap vs. valuation gap

Upper right is the preferred quadrant: under-recognized AI linkage plus valuation asymmetry. Dot size tracks alpha score.

Top-node score stack

The formula rewards latent fit, discovery, valuation, catalysts, and execution, then subtracts the hype penalty.

AI visibility mix

Latent and emerging categories dominate the list. Discovered names remain as controls where strategic relevance is high but alpha is lower.

Stricter selection

A second-pass screen for names with less direct current AI-chain exposure

This stricter list excludes direct AI chips, fab tools/materials, advanced packaging, optical interconnect, data-center power, cooling, transformers, racks, and obvious data-center construction beneficiaries. It overlaps the broad 100-name list on only 12 tickers.

Strict candidates
95

The stricter screen still keeps 50 U.S. and 50 non-U.S. public companies, but shifts the thesis into second-order infrastructure.

Overlap with broad list
11

84 names are strict-only; 91 broad-list names fall out under stricter rules.

Direct names excluded
25

Excluded rows include direct optics, power, cooling, transformers, fab equipment, packaging, data-center construction, and safety-service exposure.

Top strict node
BRC

Brady leads the strict screen with an alpha score of 86.8.

Strict bucket average alpha

The stricter universe clusters in industrial equipment, water/fluid systems, materials, tooling, MRO, sensors, recycling, and safety.

Strict alpha vs. discovery, colored by bucket

Y-axis is current AI-chain risk: low is preferred, medium requires deeper proof, and high should normally be excluded or treated as a control.

Strict top-node component stack

The stricter formula keeps the same basic alpha logic but increases the importance of screening out obvious current AI supply-chain exposure.

Overlap names that survived both screens

Only twelve broad-list companies also pass the stricter screen. These are useful for comparing broad latent relevance against strict absence-of-obvious-AI exposure.

Decades of proprietary collision-claims, repair-cost and parts data plus the network rails connecting 300+ insurers, ~30k repair shops, OEMs and parts suppliers - the only training corpus and distribution channel of its kind for P&C claims AI (photo estimating, casualty/bodily-injury AI, subrogation).A 40-year proprietary auto-claims data monopoly with deployed, paid AI at scale - and the stock has been cut in half during an AI bull tape. Q1 2026 revenue grew 12% to $281M with 43% adjusted EBITDA margins, and roughly $100M (10% of revenue) now comes from AI-based solutions adopted by 125+ insurers and 15,000+ repair facilities. The market is pricing the AI attach optionality at zero while paying ~7-8x EV/EBITDA for sticky 10-12% growth vertical software.Catalysts: Quarterly AI-revenue disclosures (AI drove ~1/3 of growth); casualty platform wins ramping; FY26 guide $1.155-1.163B reiterated; Advent/Dragoneer PE share overhang clearing; potential buyback against depressed price; large-insurer AI estimating conversions moving from low single-digit to double-digit claim share.
Risks: ADAS-driven decline in accident frequency shrinks claim volumes; persistent PE-holder selling and high stock comp; GAAP P/E optically high (84x); Mitchell/Solera competition; insurer concentration.

200+ years of scientific publishing IP: ~1,600 journals, hundreds of thousands of book titles, and the peer-review pipeline producing fresh, rights-cleared training and grounding data that LLM labs cannot scrape legally. One of only three scale owners of rights-cleared, peer-reviewed scientific corpus on earth (Elsevier and Springer being the others, one giant and one private), trading at ~15x earnings and ~11x free cash flow as a 'dying publisher' while its AI licensing line inflects: $29M in Q1 FY26 alone versus $40M for all of FY24, over $100M lifetime, and a strategic partnership with Anthropic to pipe institutional library subscriptions into AI tools. As frontier labs pivot to AI-for-science, vetted scientific content becomes a recurring toll, not a one-off.Catalysts: Recurring multi-lab AI licensing deals (now including syndicating other publishers' content); Anthropic institutional partnership rollout; quarterly AI-revenue disclosure cadence; FY26 guide of $3.90-4.35 adjusted EPS and ~$200M FCF on a $2.3B market cap; copyright case law hardening the value of licensed corpora.
Risks: Licensing deals are lumpy and could plateau; an adverse fair-use ruling would weaken pricing power; core publishing revenue slightly negative (-1.7% in Q2); long-term risk that AI agents disintermediate journal consumption.

Advnsys division (Tate access floors, containment, structural ceilings) - EUR 1.66B revenue data-center infrastructure business buried inside a building-materials cyclical, with backlog +24% and 2026 order intake 2x YoYKingspan is priced as a depressed European insulated-panel/construction cyclical, but its Advnsys division (Tate raised access floors, aisle containment, structural ceilings, DC airflow infrastructure) is a quietly dominant data-center white-space franchise: FY25 Advnsys revenue EUR 1.66B (+12%), trading profit EUR 184.5M (+17%), year-end backlog +24%, and 2026 order intake running at DOUBLE the prior-year pace. Tate is the de facto standard for hyperscale raised floor and containment - a small-dollar but schedule-critical line item in every shell fit-out. The other ~80% of the business gives you a free option on EU construction recovery while the DC unit compounds.Catalysts: Capacity ramps underway in US, Middle East and Asia specifically for data-center demand; H1 2026 results showing Advnsys order intake doubling; growing disclosure of the division could force sum-of-parts re-rating; any EU construction stabilization adds a second leg
Risks: 82% of revenue still tied to weak European/global construction; Advnsys growth could be diluted at group level; raised-floor content per MW can shrink in liquid-cooled slab-on-grade designs; historical Grenfell-related reputational overhang

Method and caveats

A research queue, not a price target

The screen intentionally looks for plausible AI-enabling assets that are not primarily valued as AI companies today. That is useful for idea generation, but it is not enough for a trade.

Score formula

Alpha score equals latent AI fit plus discovery gap, valuation gap, catalyst density, and execution quality, minus hype penalty. This makes already-obvious AI names lose ranking power even when strategic relevance is high.

Exclusion discipline

Obvious AI-core stocks such as GPU, cloud, model, and megacap platform leaders are excluded. Some discovered infrastructure names remain as controls so the page can compare relevance against residual alpha.

Required follow-up

Before using any row, re-check valuation, listing status, liquidity, estimate revisions, backlog, customer concentration, customer evidence, price rerating, and whether AI is already embedded in consensus.

Diligence questions that can break the thesis

1Is the company actually selling into the AI buildout, or is the linkage only adjacent and aspirational?
2Has the stock already rerated faster than the revenue opportunity, compressing the discovery gap?
3Does backlog convert at attractive margin, or does capacity expansion require working capital and capex that dilute returns?
4Is the AI customer base concentrated in one hyperscaler, one region, or one project cycle?
5Could power, permitting, water, grid interconnection, or export controls delay the end market the company depends on?
6Does the ordinary share, ADR, local listing, or liquidity profile make the idea impractical for the intended portfolio?

Market data was refreshed on July 9, 2026 from Yahoo Finance chart and quote endpoints. It does not update estimates, corporate actions, or thesis evidence in real time.
