Latent AI Nodes and Connections
A 100-company map of businesses that are not priced as AI-core software, GPU, cloud, or model platforms, but own assets that become more valuable if AI infrastructure, industrial autonomy, edge inferencing, robotics, and data-center buildout keep expanding.
51 U.S. and 51 non-U.S. names, intentionally excluding obvious AI-core megacap and GPU-platform leaders.
Power, grid, thermal, water, sensors, photonics, industrial automation, services, space, edge, and advanced materials.
49 macro, news, company, and exclusion sources are mapped back to the ranked companies.
Names marked latent are plausible AI enablers where the AI link is still not the headline investor narrative.
The core thesis - unpriced AI leverage hides in power, passives, thermal and measurement assets - keeps being validated: 2026 hyperscaler capex guides to $635-690B, high-voltage transformer lead times run 36-48 months, and high-cap MLCC prices are up 15-35% with 16-24 week lead times. The threat is discovery velocity, not thesis decay: June 9's tape rotated violently into already-found Asia memory and passives (SK hynix +15.9%, Taiyo Yuden +20.0%, Murata +11.3%) and out of crowded US optics (AAOI -15.1%, COHR -12.0%, VIAV -6.7%) after Ciena's beat-and-plunge, confirming that discovered second-derivative names now trade on expectations rather than assets. Residual alpha is concentrating in the unloved negative-YTD operational-data and grid-telemetry cohort (Belden -8.4% YTD, Itron -13.6%, Badger Meter -25.8%, Trimble -32.7%) and in post-derate idiosyncratic stories like Oxford Instruments, down 9.3% today despite 30% Advanced Technologies order growth that already covers FY27 revenue. The active ranking pass cross-checks the original thesis against current market prices, market cap, YTD rerating, AI 2027 compute/security assumptions, hyperscaler capex pressure, power constraints, HBM and advanced-packaging evidence, and physical-AI adoption signals.
The thesis is real, but the alpha depends on discovery timing
The web check supports the demand side: AI is stressing power, cooling, grid, fiber, interconnect, and edge infrastructure. The harder question is whether each company is still under-discovered enough to deserve a high alpha rank.

IEA: data centre electricity use surged in 2025; AI...Morgan Stanley frames U.S. data-center demand as a possible 74 GW market by 2028, with a large power-access shortfall and direct implications for grid equipment, storage, and off-grid power.

S&P Global: 2026 Trends in Data Center Services & I...What changed from obvious AI screens
AI data centers need not only GPUs, but fast interconnection, backup energy, switchgear, transformers, metering, thermal controls, water handling, and site services.
Inference, robotics, industrial autonomy, inspection, and edge workloads make sensors, network test, embedded components, and localized infrastructure matter more.
Some former latent names are already being repriced as AI infrastructure winners, so the screen penalizes high visibility even when strategic relevance is strong.
How to read a connection
What the company owns: transformers, grid telemetry, copper interconnect, HVAC controls, sensors, precision automation, materials, or edge assets.
Why the connection exists: macro bottleneck evidence plus company disclosures, investor materials, news, or exclusion notes.
Why the theme could matter for AI: power access, heat rejection, data movement, site delivery, factory autonomy, or edge inference.
Why this is still only a research queue: valuation, liquidity, estimates, customer concentration, and current price action need separate diligence.
The map connects companies to AI demand through assets, not hype
The zip does not contain invoice-level supplier edges. This graph therefore shows a defensible relation: AI demand driver to theme cluster to top-ranked public company nodes, with the full source map available below.

The strongest density is not where AI headlines are loudest
The charts separate strategic AI fit from discovery gap, valuation gap, catalyst density, execution quality, and hype penalties.
Theme density and average alpha
Power/grid and sensors have the most nodes, while smaller clusters can still score well when discovery and valuation gaps are high.
Discovery gap vs. valuation gap
Upper right is the preferred quadrant: under-recognized AI linkage plus valuation asymmetry. Dot size tracks alpha score.
Top-node score stack
The formula rewards latent fit, discovery, valuation, catalysts, and execution, then subtracts the hype penalty.
AI visibility mix
Latent and emerging categories dominate the list. Discovered names remain as controls where strategic relevance is high but alpha is lower.
A second-pass screen for names with less direct current AI-chain exposure
This stricter list excludes direct AI chips, fab tools/materials, advanced packaging, optical interconnect, data-center power, cooling, transformers, racks, and obvious data-center construction beneficiaries. It overlaps the broad 100-name list on only 12 tickers.
The stricter screen still keeps 50 U.S. and 50 non-U.S. public companies, but shifts the thesis into second-order infrastructure.
84 names are strict-only; 91 broad-list names fall out under stricter rules.
Excluded rows include direct optics, power, cooling, transformers, fab equipment, packaging, data-center construction, and safety-service exposure.
Brady leads the strict screen with an alpha score of 86.8.
Strict bucket average alpha
The stricter universe clusters in industrial equipment, water/fluid systems, materials, tooling, MRO, sensors, recycling, and safety.
Strict alpha vs. discovery, colored by bucket
Y-axis is current AI-chain risk: low is preferred, medium requires deeper proof, and high should normally be excluded or treated as a control.
Strict top-node component stack
The stricter formula keeps the same basic alpha logic but increases the importance of screening out obvious current AI supply-chain exposure.
Overlap names that survived both screens
Only twelve broad-list companies also pass the stricter screen. These are useful for comparing broad latent relevance against strict absence-of-obvious-AI exposure.

Where the latent AI thesis clusters
Each cluster should be tested differently: power names need backlog and margin durability, connectivity names need speed-tier evidence, and automation names need proof that AI raises attach rates rather than only replacing labor.

A research queue, not a price target
The screen intentionally looks for plausible AI-enabling assets that are not primarily valued as AI companies today. That is useful for idea generation, but it is not enough for a trade.
Alpha score equals latent AI fit plus discovery gap, valuation gap, catalyst density, and execution quality, minus hype penalty. This makes already-obvious AI names lose ranking power even when strategic relevance is high.
Obvious AI-core stocks such as GPU, cloud, model, and megacap platform leaders are excluded. Some discovered infrastructure names remain as controls so the page can compare relevance against residual alpha.
Before using any row, re-check valuation, listing status, liquidity, estimate revisions, backlog, customer concentration, customer evidence, price rerating, and whether AI is already embedded in consensus.
